book cover Illustrated Guide To Texas Hold'em: Making Winners Out Of Beginners and Advanced Players This book has an interesting and unique approach to teach poker skills, relying on over 150 illustrated examples of actual poker situations, rather than overloading the reader with a ton of text explaing complicated strategies and concepts. A great format for new players as they are able to visualize what is happening while author Dennis Purdy explains the reasons for playing a hand in a certain manner. book cover Poker: The Real Deal Phil Gordon, Poker Champion and host of Bravo's Celebrity Poker Showdown, provides insight into the many facets of the world of poker. He gives you a little bit of everything from the history of poker, to basic strategy to playing in your first card room to tournament strategy.
book cover Caro's Book of Poker Tells This book will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about reading your opponent. It covers everything from betting habits, to subtle changes in behavior, to seemingly nonchalant table talk. There is almost too much information; you can't possibly process it all after reading it just once. I would recommend skimming through the book trying to pick out the main points, and then go back to it on occasion as you notice some tendencies in the people you play with. My only complaint is that the pictures in the book look like they were taken in the 1970s so it makes the book look dated, but all in all I would definitely recommend this book.
book cover Winning Low-Limit Hold'em (2nd Edition) Low Limit Holdem is a little different than higher stakes and no limit games that you may be used to, or that most books cover. They tend to be much looser, and as such, you have to adjust your play in order to maximize your winning potential. Lee Jones provides good advice on many common situations such as flopping trips, or a strong drawing hand. This book will give you a solid foundation with which you can be a winner at Low Limit Holdem.
book cover Thursday Night Poker: How to Understand, Enjoy and Win Thursday Night Poker has everything you need to win your weekly poker game. It also discusses basic strategy to use against a number of typical home game personality types, as well as providing general advice for Hold'em, Five and Seven card Stud, Omaha, and Draw poker.

Amir Aczel does a nice job of teaching the reader the fundamentals of probability without being overly complicated or boring. It’s worth checking out for a change of pace from your usual poker books.
